National Red Dress Day May 5, 2024

Sunday, May 5 is Red Dress Day, a day to remember and honour missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and two spirited individuals (MMIWG2S+) along with our LGBTQQIA+ peoples . Red Dress Day serves as a painful reminder of the ongoing genocidal crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people and invites solidarity and action.

We will recognize this sombre day on Monday, May 6 here at Northeast Kings.  Wearing a red dress, shirt or other pieces of red clothing on Monday will show solidarity to our Indigenous friends and families. 


 Katheryn will have individual stickers to pass out to each student who is wearing red on Monday.  These stickers were designed by Indigenous students who were asked to create an image that represents the MMIWGB2S movement. These stickers are being distributed to students who are of an age where RESPECT and ACKNOWLEDGEMENT for this sombre day should be known.  These stickers are to be treated with respect and used in ways to pass along the truths faced by so many within Canada.  The individual families who are directly affected by violence against these sacred beings know the lasting impacts of losing a loved one.  Through this  movement and by recognizing this day, hopefully more respect and importance can be given to Indigenous Women, Girls, Boys, and Two Spirited individuals and all the power and knowledge that is held can be passed on to them.  Please try to wear something red on Monday to show your support.


MUSIC DEPARTMENT

Please take some time to sign up to work the 50/50 Draw at the Valley Drive-In for this weekend. The time commitment is about an hour and a half and you’ll be finished before the movies begin - if you want to watch the shows.

Grade 8’s - you have a rehearsal this morning: Period 4.


Milk Tea

Good morning Titans, Milk tea will be back again this Monday May 6th. during middle school lunch break, $5 for milk tea and $6 with the toppings added, looking forward to seeing you all there!

Sr Girls Rugby

Huge congratulations to the Senior Girls Rugby Team on both their wins this week! beating AV in a dominant performance on Tuesday and CK 48-0 last night. Shout out to all the players of the games: Addie Rogers and Lucy Harland against AV and Morgan Cox and Arabell Pottie against CK. Also shout outs to all the players who scored hat tricks this week: Khloe Jodrey, Lexi Knox, and Lucy Harland with a hat trick in both games. Fire up the Titans!


Battle of the Bands - a Musical Talent Show for youth in Grades 7 - 12

Please send your demo song and band info to: battle@rewind893.ca All entries must be in by May 19th. The top 5 bands will be contacted VIA email by May 24th to confirm you are in the Battle of the Bands!!!

Face Aux Questions

Congratulations to all the French immersion students who participated in Face aux Questions at Central Kings yesterday evening. A special shout out to the Grade 11 team of Shane McWaid, Gretchen Rafuse, Noah Chase and Emily Whelan for winning the competition.


Track and Field

Well done to all those that completed at the practice meet last night at King's Edgehill School. It was a cool evening for Track, but we had several athletes run and jump their personal bests, posting times and distances which should be competitive this year. This is a great indicator of things to come. 


All runners will be practising at the Acadia track on Tuesday. We will need to find transportation for everyone. Please see Mr. Wood or Mrs. Baldwin to communicate how you plan to get to Acadia, and if you have room in an approved driver’s vehicle.
